We were pleased to have a window seat as we flew over the long fjord on our way to Kangerlussuaq. This is where our charter plane from New York flew into. The US Airforce used to have a base there and they sold it to Greenland for $1. That gave this area a small airport that is now used to bring in tourists for local explorations and cruises.
At the airport, we were met by a bus that picked us up and drove us out about 20 miles to the area of the fjord that is deep enough to support a port. The ship was at anchor and we boarded the ship via Zodiacs with the expedition team.
The evening departure brought us some amazing scenery as we sailed out of the fjord.
