On the sea day, as we were crossing the some what choppy drake passage, the captain came on the intercom to let us know that because of over 65 MPH winds and 26 ft swells expected for the next several days in the Falkland Islands, we would not be able to port there. There is no way to dock, much less tender in that kind of a wind storm. He also came on the TV that night to show us the navigational path he would be taking in order to avoid the worst of the storm. Though we were all disappointed that we would miss the Falklands, we were super impressed at the captain’s attention to the circumstances and the clear way that he communicated what to expect over the next few days. We headed straight up the middle where the waves were the most gentle, and though it was a little rough, we avoided the 26 ft swells.
