Our Billboard On Board singer/piano duet sang “The 59th Street Bridge Song” one night by Simon and Garfunkle, and I can’t remember if it was before or after we visited the port of Djipivogur. The lyrics are:

“Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy
Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy”

The reason it is relevant as that this little town is part of the global “Slow Living” movement. The principles of this movement are:

  • A Slow Approach to Every Day Life
  • Live with Mindfulness and Presence
  • A Connection to Community
  • A Commitment to Living with Purpose
  • A Commitment to Minimalization and Consuming Less

So we enjoyed this sleepy little town with a walk around town, a visit to a historic Viking long house that now serves as the welcome center and a stroll past the granite egg art installation which represents the many different species of birds that inhabit the area. We also visited an artists house with all kinds of whaler bones and relics and a cute little camp site. I climbed a little hill in the town for spectacular views.
