For this morning’s tour we had a dry landing on the lava rocks and an interesting walk around the lava fields. We learned about the pioneer plants like the cacti that grow in the lava. and the grasses. These types of plants are important as the start the ecosystem a new on lava fields. It was a interesting hike, and challenging not in length or elevation, but in skillfully navigating the lava rocks along the path. The yellow and brown cactus are know as Lava Cactus and are endemic to Galapagos. Our hike was followed by a Zodiac cruise where we saw our first flightless cormorants, more marine iguanas, and sea lions.
