Visiting the beautiful Melk Abby is a must do on a Danube river cruise. The abbey is still an active school and monastery for the Benedictine priests/monks. They have an active school for children in the community and are lucky enough to have the tourists who are willing to pay to visit the abbey to help support the upkeep of the buildings and the abbots. This is one of the most beautiful buildings in all of Austria.

Unfortunately, they do not allow picture taking because people don’t know how to turn of their flashes, so the only pictures I had are from post cards purchased in the gift shop. But these pictures should give you a good idea of what the interior looks like and why so many folks visit the abbey a year.
