This was our 3rd time to visit Skagway, so it gave us the chance to enjoy the town at its quietest. I highly recommend the train excursion or the coach excursion along that opposing highway. Both offer tremendous views and the opportunity to see both landscapes and wildlife. I have done both on previous visits and will say that if you haven’t visited the town before, those are the two excursions to take. The one thing that I was able to enjoy on this visit was the salmon swimming up stream to spawn. It was pretty amazing to see them working so hard to get up the little stream in town. There is a nice interpretive trail along the creek front that explains the process and the ecology of the area. Another site we enjoyed was the rock wall that faces the cruise ships. Many of the cruise lines will hire painters to commemorate a first vist or special occasion on the rock wall. The wall is ever changing as it often has rock slides that destroy one mural and leave a fresh spot for a new one. The area offers great view when sailing in and out of the port.
