San Diego is probably my favorite city in California. It’s just big enough to be interesting and small enough not to feel overwhelming like Los Angeles and San Francisco. Visitors often enjoy the Spanish Old Town, SeaWorld, or the San Diego Zoo. Food lovers have many choices from the Gas Lamp entertainment district, to Little Italy, and many Mexican restaurants. I have visited the town on several other occasions for a getaway or a pre-cruise stay, but being a fan of the movie Some Like It Hot, I wanted to visit the famous Coronado Hotel on this trip.

That meant a beautiful ferry ride across the bay and then a quick Uber to the hotel where we enjoyed seeing the grounds and an al fresco lunch beachside. Right before our evening departure, we were treated to some fireworks over the bay.
