Bay of Islands is a beautiful area near the Northern tip of New Zealand’s North Island. My one piece of advice for guests visiting here on a large ship, is to book a ship’s tour to make sure that your are one of the first off the ship on a tender boat. The area close to the shore is shallow, so the tender boats have a long way to travel to get people ashore. If there is any kind of chop on the water, the boats must go very slowly. We thought that our Captain’s Club priority status would get us ashore to explore on our on in a reasonable amount of time, but we waited at least an hour for our tender.

Once we were ashore we loved the little town of Paihia. We found a local brew pub and enjoyed lunch and shopping the local craft market. It was a too short visit to this lovely area of New Zealand.
