We’ll be cruising to Mexico next November on the Celebrity Mercury. One of the ports we’ll be visiting is Puerta Vallarta.
This port is is the state of Jalisco. Mariachi Music and Ballet Folklorico have their origins in this region. My Daughter and I take Mexican Ballet Folklorico dance at our studio in Sierra Vista, AZ.
Part of our dance directors philosophy is that in learning different dances we are sharing our cultures with each-other.
I was hoping that our family could have an opportunity in Jalisco to see professional dancers perform some of the dances we have been learning.
When we took the Mexico Cruise on the Celebrity Mercury in 2003, we very much enjoyed the group of Mariachis and Folkloric dancers that came on the ship in Acapulco to perform for us. From what I can tell, we will have a chance to see them perform again on board….But I was really hoping for a chance to see several different dance groups in each region as part of the tours offeres.
So far, most of what I see offered as tour options is pretty touristy and not authentic Mexican culture….Swim With Dollphins, Shot-over Jet Boats….ect.
I really would like to see more authentic Mexican culture promoted on tours.
