[Editor’s Note: Mary Alyce continues her virtual cruise reporting from the Holland American ship, ms Eurodam]
We sailed into the Sydney, Nova Scotia harbor at 8am and for the first time there was sun.
After 4 visits of rain and clouds here we were pleasantly surprised to find sunshine.
We had watched the Indiana Jones movie in the screening room aboard ship at 10am. It is a room with reclining chairs like you would find in a home theater, very comfortable.
After the movie we headed to town. There is a lovely boardwalk along the harbor that meanders for about 2 miles. We ended at a park with a lake with ducks, fountains and bridges. We walked back through town and stopped for mussels and lobster/crab dip at Joe’s Warehouse. They serve 2 kinds of homemade bread and oatcakes, these are a Cape Breton specialty and delicious. We bought a dozen but I wouldn’t bet they will come home with us. I did buy a local church cookbook that has recipes for the oat cakes, which I will try when I get home.
The ship seems to repeat the brown and tones of greens and turquoise throughout, very calm and peaceful. We have met a couple we sailed with 34 days last year on the Statendam another couple from the Prinsendam, it’s fun to renew old acquaintances. See you in Halifax.
