JUNEAU, Alaska – A tour bus ran off the road Tuesday, slid 25 feet down an embankment and overturned, injuring 11 people, police said.
Ten people with bumps, bruises and a few broken bones were treated at a hospital and released, a nursing supervisor said. One other with chest injuries remained hospitalized in stable condition.
The bus had 17 occupants — 15 tourists off the Celebrity Cruises ship Summit and two guides, officials said.
Police Lt. Kris Sell said the bus tried to drive around some pot holes but got too close to the shoulder and the front tire went over the embankment.
The driver was cited for reckless driving, police said.
Dawn Wolfe, co-owner of the Gastineau Guiding tour bus, said she talked to passengers who claimed the road caved away.
