Royal Caribbean has rolled out its Kummelweck Sandwich, originated on the Oasis Class ships, fleet wide. This means that no matter which Royal Caribbean ship you are sailing, you’ll be able to enjoy this incredible sandwich.
A beef on weck sandwich, found primarily in Western New York, is made with roast beef on a kummelweck roll. The meat on the sandwich is traditionally served rare, thin cut, with the top bun getting a dip au jus. Accompaniments include horseradish, a dill pickle spear, and french fries. The chefs at Royal Caribbean have “kicked it up a notch” with their own original roll, special slow cooking method for the roast beef, and a “secret sauce”.
The sandwich is a staple on the menu at popular chain Buffalo Wild Wings, but only in their New York State restaurants. Maybe, if they have enough requests they will roll them out nation wide, like Royal Caribbean has done fleet wide. Your might remember seeing the sandwich on Food Network with Bobby Flay or when Guy Fiery featured the sandwich on his popular Food Network show “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives”. He visited Buffalo’s Pizza Junction which made a famous version of the sandwich. Unfortunately for Buffalo residents Pizza Junction is no longer open as a restaurant, but for those craving the Kummelweck, Royal Caribbean is a great place to get one.
I can personally attest to the greatness of the sandwich on Royal Caribbean, as I had them with friends in the Park Cafe on the Oasis of the Seas. It is delicious in every way from the hand carved roast beef to the perfectly seasoned bun. I got mine with a little au jus, but it is available horseradish and the special chef created sauce featured in the above video.
