FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (May 27, 2008) – MSC Cruises is proud to announce that it is joining with the Society for Accessible Travel & Hospitality (SATH) in its mission to make travel more accessible for all.

“We are very excited to lend our support to this extraordinary international organization,” says Richard E. Sasso, president and CEO of MSC Cruises (USA). “MSC Cruises is committed to accommodating all travelers and making cruising on our elegant ships comfortable and accessible for travelers with special needs.”

Throughout his more than 35 years in the cruise industry, Sasso has been a staunch supporter of SATH’s mission. In fact, he is a past recipient of SATH’s highest honor, the Access to Freedom Award, which recognizes efforts to promote awareness and access for travelers with disabilities.

“We want everyone to enjoy MSC Cruises’ ‘Beautiful. Passionate. Italian.’ experience, from the superior service and pampering to the cuisine and extensive entertainment options,” says Sasso.

SATH Director of Education Roberta Schwartz, CTC, MCC, is delighted that MSC Cruises is putting its support behind SATH: “I’ve known Rick for many years and we at SATH are honored to have him and MSC Cruises join our mission. With Rick’s passion and dedication, we know that another cruise option is now available to those who have special needs.”

All of MSC Cruises’ ships offer staterooms suitable for individuals with disabilities and/or wheelchairs. Wheelchair access is available to all public rooms and elevators support wheelchairs and scooters. Most of the ships’ spas are accessible and wheelchair access is available in the theaters, dining rooms and in the casinos. Other facilities include accessible bathrooms on each deck, additional grab bars in the bathroom and shower, adjustable shower heights, and fold-down shower benches in designated accessible staterooms.

“By lending our sponsorship to SATH, MSC Cruises is not only recognizing this important segment of the population but we will also be working closely with SATH to promote consumer awareness,” says Sasso.
