When Adonia joins the P&O Cruises fleet on May 20, 2011, she will set sail on a series of Mediterranean cruises to many new ports of call. At just 30,000 tonnes and 710 passengers, Adonia is significantly smaller than the rest of the fleet. The ship will be based in Southampton between May and October 2011, offering cruises from seven to 26 nights in duration to the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. The itineraries will feature overnight calls in Athens and St. Petersburg, as well as a round Britain cruise.

Her size will enable her to call at many lesser-visited, off-the-beaten track destinations including Koper, Slovenia; Hvar and Zdar, Croatia; Nauplia,Greece; Kotor,Montenegro; Constanza, Romania; Bourgas, Bulgaria; Sete, France and Huelva in Spain.

Fly cruising will also be a highlight for Adonia with passengers able to start their cruise in the heart of the destination and passengers booking a 2011 Adonia Mediterranean fly-cruise will receive the benefit of free flights from selected UK airports*.

In October, Adonia will reposition to the Mediterranean and offer six Central and Eastern Mediterranean fly-cruises, departing from Savona, Athens, Trieste and Naples. Itinerary highlights include a Christmas and New Year cruise to the Holy Land.

P&O Cruises managing director Carol Marlow said: “These itineraries will appeal to adventurous, spirited travellers who don’t want to simply relax on a beach or sightsee in big cities. They will be for the more adventurous who want the chance to visit a mix of the must-see sights with some more off-the-beaten track ports of call. These lesser known places have some intriguing stories to tell. For instance, Jason and the Argonauts landed the Golden Fleece in Constanza, Zadar has spectacular 16th century Venetian walls, whilst Huelva is the flamenco capital of Spain.

“We have larger family friendly contemporary ships plus we have ships exclusively for adults and this includes Adonia – our intimate “pathfinder” ship. Adonia’s cruises will include the popular ‘spotlight’ programme with talks including heritage, history and the arts. The addition of Adonia to the fleet is encouraging a new, experienced, savvier traveller and her itineraries certainly won’t disappoint.”
