Celebrity will debut its latest ship the Solstice in late November of 2008. In addition to its many typical cruise ship features like specialty dining and evening venues, the ship will have to innovative “green” features. Months ago Celebrity announced that the ship will feature a top deck covered with living grass. That venue will be called “The Lawn Club” and will allow passengers to enjoy activities like lawn bowling and bocce ball. The ship’s other “green” feature will be located just above the Lawn Club: a full array of solar panels. We are still waiting the official announcement of what the solar panels will power and how much electricity costs they will defray, but it sure is interesting to see a cruise ship with panels that will hopefully keep operating costs and cruise prices low in the current high priced fossil fuel market.
