Today our ship docked in beautiful Barcelona Spain. Since we had spent 4 days there last year before our cruise on the Summit, we decided that in the cold overcast weather it would be much more relaxing to stay on the ship. Barcelona is a fascinating city with its history dating back to the Greeks, Carthaginians, and Romans. It later became city with many wealthy merchants and traders. Our favorite sites we visited last year included the City Museum, Gothic Quarter, Las Ramblas, and the town’s central Cathedral. The absolutely most memorable spots were two of Antonio Gaudi’s masterpieces the Casa Batllo and the yet to be completed Sagrada Familia church. However, today we decided to stay aboard our beautiful ship and enjoy the ambiance and amenities.

This gives me a great opportunity to write a bit more about two of the areas we enjoyed during our onboard stay. First we dined for lunch in the ship’s ocean view café. The lay out and flow of the area have a great ease and obtaining food is very efficient. There has been a lot said about the fact that the Ocean View café on the Solstice does not have trays. This has actually worked pretty well, except for the fact that diners must find a seat and then obtain their drinks. Someone must have done some sort of ergonomic study, because this method seems faster than …

At last I've managed to get back on & make a post.

Enjoying reading about your trip and staying onboard is quite a good idea because lots of the other passengers will be off the ship for a few hours and you were able to enjoy the ambiance & amenities with alot less people onboard.

Next time you visit Barcelona you might like to consider  El Poble Espanyol (Spanish Village ) which is an open air museum of 117 full scale replicas of buildings from different parts of Spain. It's meant to be very good. Did you visit it last time you were in Barcelona ?

Were many other people dining in the Ocean View Cafe when you went for lunch or were most passengers in Barcelona ?

Hey Blue Sky,

We did not make it to the Spanish Village when we were last hear, but have heard it is wonderful, kind of like all of Spain in a few square blocks, and the Flamenco show there at night is supposed to be fantastic.

Ocean View Cafe had very light traffic during our day in Barcelona, though I would not say the ship was empty, maybe 50% or 75% of the people went into town?  Not really sure how to estimate, but it did seem like others stayed on board, who perhaps had been  to Barcelona before or were on this cruis as a back to back.

Solstice is fabulous!!!

Thanks for visiting Cruise Talk Central!!!
