Not going on the Summit until San Juan April 4, 09
You are a short timer. Have you booked the Normandie yet?
Barcelona- I have a great accidental video of my wife getting her fanny pack picked on a side street of the Ramblas. The two women didn't get anything but a telephone number and some kleenix since they picked the forward compartment of the fanny pack. They use a piece of cardboard and one puts it in your stomach and distracts you while the other goes under the cardboard and manipulates the fanny pack.
I have only been on the Summit one other time but have been on the MIll 4, Connie 2 (one transatlantic), Infinity (Alaska and South America).
All the speciality restaurants are worth the $30 charge. I was on the MIlli when the charge was $12. Her second cruise.
Thanks for stopping by Joe. We haven't yet decided on whether or no we'll be doing the Normandie restuarante yet. We ate in the United States when we on the Infinity and it was a wonderful meal. Service and food were terriffic. However we also felt that way about the main dining room too.
We are also hoping to avoid the pick pockets on the Ramblas too. I plan to take the usual precautions that are advised to avoid them. Will have to make sure I am careful.
What I understand from an onboard contact at Celebrity is that “the pod problem” that plagued all M class ships in the early years boiled down to premature wear (after approx. 12 to 15 months as opposed to the normal live cycle of 36 months), which forced Celebrity to operate the pods at reduced power until an emergency dry dock could take place. This issue was finally fixed on all ships approx. 2 years ago. The current pod problem on Summit is apparantly of a different nature: one pod is not working at all. They apparantly expect to fix this without a drydock.
I hope Summit doesn't have problems. I just missed a pod problem in South America on the Infinity and then out of Hawaii on the Infinity I got hit when they cancelled our cruise two days before departure. We got refund and a free cruise. We had our own flights with ff miles so we went anyhow and booked extra flights to link up with our previous flights.
We did a land cruise of Maui and Honolulu and saw Infinity show up in Honolulu for the cruise that was to follow ours.
