Hi….never been on cruise and have found myself on a last minute cruise to Baltic. Am on Royal Carribean. Can anyone give me some real basics like what to do immediately upon boarding to ensure reservations in one of the restaurants (as an example), who should be tipped up front for a little "extra" experience. Things like that.

thanks so much

Kadry,

Do you remember what kind of dining arrangements you signed up for when you made your reservation.   If you have done traditional seating you will have a card in your room with your table assignment and it should say weather you or 1st or 2nd Seating.   I always grab my card and then head to the dining room to see if the assignment meets my expectations.   Several times I have had to request a change when I was assigned to a large table when I had my kids with me, or when I was assigned a table that was behind the stairs.   Usually, they have some one assigned to handle change requests.   You might have to wait in line but they will see what they can do to accommodate you if your change request.    Usually they only have a limited number of options available for changes, and they give priority to passengers who have previously cruised with the line.  For my first cruise with Celebrity, which is the sister line of Royal Caribbean, we had a nice table, in a good location with 6 other very nice couples, sever of which we still keep in touch with today.

Jewel of the Seas has two specialty restaurants in addition to the main dining room that are available at an extra charge to passengers.   If you wish to dine here you can usually make reservations the same day, but you can also make them several days ahead of time too.

I have been on 13 cruises and have never tipped anyone up front, so it is not necessary.   Most of the time the crew will do all they can in the hopes of making your cruise a pleasant experience.  If you feel they have done something special feel free to tip extra at the end of the cruise.

Congratulations on booking your cruise.   Please come back to our site upon your return and share with us your experiences.
