gaither,

Where will you be cruising? Does the aft facing cabin have a balcony or ocean view? It might make a difference.

Personally, we have had an aft facing cabin twice now and liked it both times. One cruise was along the Mexican Riveria and the other cruise was to Alaska.

On the Alaska cruise, the aft facing cabin had a balcony and it was wonderful. We got to see lots of wonderful Alaskan scenery from our aft facing balcony and it was much warmer than the sides of the ship with the body of the ship blocking the wind.

The Mexico cruise was an ocean view, but we enjoyed the aft view as much as the side ocean view room that we had previously sailed in to Mexico.

Which cruise line and ship is this on? On Celebrity, the aft cabins tend to be larger too which is nice since we cruise as a family.

There is one down side to aft cabins.

When the ship is using the thrusters to turn, the whole aft of the ship can shake a bit. Actually the whole ship does shake a bit, but the aft is much more pronounced. We noticed this while pulling into port in Mexico and when making navigational turns in the inside passage. If you like to sleep in in you arrive in port at 7:00 every morning this can be annoying. If you are an early riser or deep sleeper, you may never notice it.

We gladly would sail in an aft cabin because of the larger rooms at reasonable prices, but some of the cruise lines are now starting to charge a higher price for these cabins because the large balconies and protection from the wind puts them more in demand.
