Fire Aboard MS Nordlys Kills 2 Crew, All Passengers Safely Evacuated

A suspected explosion in the engine room of Hurtigruten’s MS Nordlys has killed two crew members and injured 9 crew members. The cruise line reports all passengers safe and “accounted for”. Most of ships passengers and crew safely boarded life boats while she ships continued to make its way to the port of port of Aalesund, where those remaining on board evacuated the ship in port. Passengers report an efficient and well organized handling of the emergency by the staff and crew. They were given life vest and safely in the life boats with in minutes of the incident. The fire has been brought under control by the fire brigade in the port of Aalesund. However the ship will has taken on water and is listing at about 10%. Passengers have been given the option of either a full refund or a continuance of their 7 day voyage aboard on of the other Hurtigruten vessels.
