1 Apr 09 – 2009 marks the 25th year of P&O Cruises Music Festivals at Sea programme, a collection of music cruises hosted by well known TV, radio and stage personalities such as Richard Baker, Henry Kelly, Angela Ripon, Nick Bailey, John Brunning, Gabriel Woolf and Humphrey Burton

In 1984, the first Music Festival at Sea was hosted by broadcaster and world-famous clarinettist, Jack Brymer OBE and featured chamber music, piano recitals, opera, Viennese and Victorian programmes. The Silver Jubilee year will be celebrated by incorporating some of the performances and guest artists from the past 25 years into the 2009 itineraries.

Music Festivals at Sea will be offered on seven cruise holidays on Oriana, Artemis and Aurora, and will feature internationally-renowned artists and guest hosts leading a programme of opera, operetta, recitals, music quizzes, interviews and shore excursions.

P&O Cruises head of brand marketing, Philip Price, said: “Our Music Festivals at Sea programme is incredibly popular with our passengers and we are proud to have reached such a landmark occasion.

“Over the past 25 years we have offered more than 100 Music Festivals at Sea cruises and welcomed many well known names on board – such as Nicolai Gedda, Tasmin Little, Piers Lane, Peter Donohoe, Guy Barker, Duncan McTier, Janis Kelly, John Hudson, Coull Quartet and Pavao Quartet.

“2009 will be no exception with the world renowned soprano, Dame Felicity Lott, and pianist John Lill both being welcomed on board Artemis as our celebrity guests this year.

“Many of our passengers are passionate about music and see it as an inherent part of the cruise experience. Our programme aims to challenge and inspire music lovers, as well as entertain them with the lighter side of the artists’ repertoires.”
