Cozumel, The Almost Awesome Day

A good look at the choppy waters

Cozumel should have been the highlight of our cruise.   Since this was the Presidents Cruise with Michael Bayley, all captain’s club members  had been invited to join him at Playa Mia Beach Break in Cozumel for a day of food, fun, sun, open bar, beach activities and a water park.   Unfortunately the weather systems had other plans.   It was cool and windy and certainly not beach weather.   Not a big deal for us since we cruise more for the ship than the destinations, but we were looking forward to this nice treat from the president of Celebrity.

We had a good meal.

We had a good meal.

When we arrived in Cozumel we were hopeful that the weather might clear up a bit by the time our excursion was scheduled to depart, but when it only got worse we decided not to go.   I talked to several people who did go and though they said they could not enjoy the beach or the water, the food, drinks, and company were nice.    There is a part of me that wishes that we still had gone, and another part that was glad we kept things simple.   Instead of the excursion, we just walked into town, did our t-shirt shopping at the cruise terminal shops, and then found a nice place with Fajitas and cold beer.  We got our fajitas and beer at Ernesto’s which is to the left about 1/2  a block as we exited the cruise terminal.   We got a mixed plate with beef, chicken and shrimp,  and some nachos which was more than enough food.   They were fresh, hot and tasty.

There were all kinds of beaches and beach bars just outside the cruise terminal that offered day passes, so if you just want some cold beers and a quick dip on a calmer day, you wouldn’t need to have the expense of a cab ride or excursion.   However, be sure to check out the many excursions offered in Cozumel either by your cruise or from an independent operator.    Playa Mia  and other beach clubs offers a full day pass with lots of beach and water activties.  Other beach bars have great snorkeling sights a little further from the cruise terminal.   There are also marine parks that offer amazing snorkeling and swim with the dolphin opportunities.   So be sure that if a more exciting day is in your budget that you check out what else is available to do in Cozumel.  For more pictures, please visit our Cozumel Gallery Page.
