HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (Dec. 2, 2010) – Costa Cruises has received two Porthole Cruise Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards.

Every year, readers of Porthole — one of the leading U.S. cruise magazines — cast ballots for their favorite cruise industry products and destinations on Porthole’s website or via e-mail in a variety of categories. In the 2010 edition – the 12th annual awards – Costa Cruises won in two categories: “Best Mediterranean Itineraries” and “Best Africa/Middle East Itineraries.”

“Taking home these Reader’s Choice Awards for the third consecutive year is a tribute to Costa’s solid brand position as Europe’s leading cruise line,” said Maurice Zarmati, president and CEO of Costa Cruise North America. “There are many players in the Med, and it is truly gratifying to be recognized by Porthole’s discriminating readers as offering the best itineraries in the region.”

The Readers’ Choice Awards confirm both the Italian company’s leadership and its spirit of innovation. Costa Cruises has a tradition in the Mediterranean spanning more than six decades and was the first company to operate cruises there year-round. In 2010 there were more than 350 Mediterranean cruises offered on 12 Costa ships, calling at destinations in Italy, France, Spain, Tunisia, Morocco, Greece, Croatia, Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt and Israel. Costa Cruises was the first cruise company in the world to offer regular itineraries in the Middle East, with seven-day cruises using Dubai as homeport, and in the Indian Ocean, with 17-day cruise vacations operating out of Mauritius.
