I have done two fall crossings, but they were both more Southerly than the South Hampton to New York crossing, but I can give you a few suggestions.

Day Wear:

At least one or two really nice up scale looking warm up suit. Make sure it is a really nice one, not just sweats and a hoodie, but black velour type, or a high quality track suit. You can wear this for active type activities like deck walking or fitness classes.

I believe also on Cunard, you are expected to dress up some what for lunch, so I would suggest a pair of black slacks, brown slacks and khaki slacks, with coordinating casual tops and blazers. You might also bring along a basic black skirt that could be paired with boots or closed toed shoes. I sometimes wear ribbed turtle necks or mock turtle necks. Something you would wear at home at a nice fall luncheon. Bring coordinating shoes and boots. Make sure that things mix and match, or you'll have way more luggage than you need.

For Evening:

Double check your itinerary, but I believe that all evenings on "Crossings" are formal, so bring you assorted gowns or very dressy pants suits. You'll probably indoors most evenings so you can wear sleeveless or strapless, but most rooms are not very warm, so long sleeves, and even velvet appropriate for a fall crossing. Don't go with summer colors or a tropical theme, stick with more traditional fall colors from the jewel or earth tone pallet. Bring a wrap of some kind if you tend to get chilly, but most likely you will not be in the night air at all. For evening closed or open toe shoes are appropriate for a crossing, though dressy strappy sandals are very popular for evening. Again your not going to be outside in the evenings, so dressy heeled sandals are fine.

I always bring a few basics like a black blazer and black leather coat. I also bring accessories like scarves to help change the look when I repeat a jacket or pants suit.

I hope that helps, it is actually very similar to what I brought on my last two crossings, though I also had some shorts and sundresses in case we had warmer days. On the South Hampton to New York, you probably won't have any of those warmer days. But still bring your swim suit at they have indoor pools and hot tubs.

I hope that helps. Enjoy your cruise.

I have gleaned a lot of advice from your website, but one thing haven't been able to find anywhere is have a list of wardrobe suggestions geared to the specific season of the cruise. I will be taking the Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to New York at the beginning of October. Most recommendations list clothing appropriate to a spring or summer crossing. Could you please provide me with or direct me to some guidelines for my wardrobe for a fall crosssing? Thank you.
