I think there are two sides of every coin. They want to encourage bookings with out worry, so they offer more coverage options through their vacation insurance program. They also can sell more of the insurance by offering to cover more cancellations reasons.

We always purchase travel insurance, mostly for the emergency coverage. If we loose our vacation, well its just that we've lost that money and our vacation, however if there is an emergency that can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, then that could be a real financial hardship, so the travel insurance would cover us.
