Virtual Cruise With Mary Alyce: Corner Brook, Newfoundland
We braved 60 mile an hour winds to get to the bay of Newfoundland. We could hear the wind whistling but the ship held steady. It is really doing well in Gale force winds. We were late in arriving, as the rain whipped around and the sun shown over the mountains.
The area is beautiful surrounded by mountains and the fall colors, even in the rain the colors were vibrant. An interesting area originally settled by the First Nation’s People, Navaho and Mohecan. The timber and paper mill industry developed the area, built homes and rented them to the workers. Very English style architecture is evident in the homes and churches, all built with Wood. We visited the town and bought some puffin poop, cod tongues and moose droppings (candy). We toured the neighbor hoods and museum area.
Everywhere we went people made notice of Jim’s red wing hat. This is the home of Dan Cleary member of the Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings.
The Lido deck on the Eurodam is quite spectacular especially the pool area. There are private cabanas that can be rented and the table and chairs are dark brown wicker with tan seats. The pool has a walk through fountain which changes colors with an interesting sculpture surrounding it. There is an area of table service from the grill and the menu at the grill is really expanded, including turkey burgers and grilled vegetable pita with hummus. Tomorrow Charlottetown, PEI.
