The America’s Cup yacht race tour is supposed to be fantastic especially if you love sailing. Several of my friends who are frequent cruisers have done that excursion and have raved about it.

We did go to St. Maarten on our recent trans-Atlantic cruise and simply walked into town where there was lots of inexpensive shopping, a nice swimming beach, and many beach front restaurants and bars. We enjoyed a nice day with very little planned. There is also “expensive” shopping in St. Maarten with lots of jewelry shops and collectibles. I liked St. Maarten.

We did not take a cruise, but in St. Maarten we went on a boat trip the majority of whose passengers were from cruises. This uses real America’s Cup racing boats, and participants were distributed among two boats and had a mini-race, handling the sails and other operating machinery under the instruction of the tour leaders and crew. They did put up less sail than is used in a regular America’s Cup race, but it was lots of fun and a highlight of our trip.

I have havn’t been to Tortola or Grand Turk. But years ago in St. Maartin we took a party boat to a beach and back.

Have you visited your cruise lines site to see what they are offering.

If you don’t find anything there, this site list private companies that you can book independantly. Just make sure you are back to the ship in plenty of time:
