“Windjammer’s Heart is Still Beating – Better Sailing Ahead

There’s no doubt about it, Windjammer Barefoot Cruises is in the midst of a storm. News accounts and chat rooms have reported tough times for the 60 year old tall ship cruise company with over a million alumni.

Danny Walsh, the grandson of the founder Captain Burke is working with the legal entities that now control the company to breathe new life into her sails. “We are actively working with several investor groups on a viable plan to continue the Windjammer tradition.” reports Mr. Walsh.

Friday, critical payments were made to all shipboard staff and other immediate debt obligations are planned shortly. Arrangements are now underway to restart the cruises in the Caribbean and Costa Rica. Essential crew and staff are working to continue vital operations on all the ships in the Windjammer inventory. A communications plan is being developed to alert future customers as to their cruise status.

“Windjammer offers fun-loving adventure vacations like no other” says Captain Paul, is a 30-year veteran of the company. “We are grateful for the loyal support of our alumni, crew staff and vendor as we weather this storm” he says. We ask our pending customers to “stay fast” and to check on our website, which will be back up shortly for the latest advisories on ship sailings. For our customers booked on cruises in the very near future we regret we will not be sailing including the weeks of October 14 and 21st. We hope to reschedule as many passengers on future cruises as possible. The Windjammer team is dedicated to restarting cruise operations shortly. ”

Our thoughts here at Cruise Talk: Hopefully this means that passengers will be enjoying their cruises and crew members will be getting paid!

  1. I hope they get everything straightened out. That’s one of the cruise lines that I’m most interested in traveling on. They sound like fun in a way the big mega resort ships can’t quite capture… :)

  2. Windjammer has posted additional information on their website regarding cancellations:

If you are canceling a cruise other than these we ask that you either fax it to 305-674-1219 or mail to Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, 1759 Bay Road, Miami Beach, FL 33139. Please note that we must have the cancellation in writing and cannot take verbal cancellations over the phone. If Windjammer has canceled your cruise we are already processing the paperwork for your refund.

  3. Windjammer is out of business. I, and many others have lost a lot of money to these scammers and rip-off artists, who continued taking our money even while cancelling cruises. I believe they had no intention of ever resuming, and were just hanging around long enough to collect more money before disappearing.

  4. James, you are right. They seem to be completely shut down. While they still have a web site, but it doesn’t look like they are in business anymore.
