Our Next Cruise… Starts in Three Days
Well I can’t believe it’s almost here…Our Celebrity Mercury Alaska family reunion cruise.
We started planning this cruise a little over a year ago with my Mother-in-law, Sister-in-law, and her husband. My Mother-in-law’s sister is also joining us as her roommate. It should be a great cruise.
We had lots of choices to make when planning this cruise. The first was the cruise line. Our first choice is Celebrity, and the rest of the family said that would be their choice too. They have gone on two Celebrity Cruises and they just like the overall cruise experience on Celebrity with”everything” being done well… service, food, entertainment etc.
Once we had selected Celebrity as our cruise line, we had to select a voyage. My Mother-in-law had the least flexible schedule. She works every other Saturday and Sunday, so she couldn’t be gone consecutive Saturdays and Sundays. The Celebrity Mercury departs on a Friday and returns on a Friday. Perfect for my Mother-in-laws situation. So the Mercury it is - for the 3rd time for us.
Next was our cabin selection. We chose a Family Ocean View on the aft of the ship, the same room in fact we were in when we took the Mercury to Mexico last November. Our more budget minded Sister-in-law and her husband choose a regular ocean view, and my Mother-in-law and her sister chose a Balcony (Veranda) state room. The good news is that we got a balcony when the Mercury went into dry dock in April and they converted our room into a balcony room by converting the window to a sliding glass door and partitioning the previously public deck space outside.
We are so looking forward to the entire cruise experience. My husband and I did an Alaska cruise 14 years ago for our honeymoon, and expect that the highlight of this trip will be just looking off the ship at the beautiful scenery. However, we do have two excursions booked. We are taking the historic Whitepass and Yukon train trip out of Skagway with the whole group and we are going to see the Lumberjack Show with the kids in Ketchikan. In Juneau, we plan to visit the State Museum and the Mendenhall Glacier on our own.
Our departure and return are out of Vancouver, a fabulous place to visit in itself. We’ll have one day after the cruise to explore and visit the city.
I plan to post a daily blog here at Cruise Talk Central about the whole trip. So please stop by if you are interested in the progress of our trip.

greetings Friends.
my wife and i are leaving on the mercury and like you we are booked into rear cabin on the pana
the new cabin number is A261. we are worried about the cabin know, because it was reported, that the rear vibrations would move you out of bed!!!!
i would be most obliged if you could comment on it. also did you enyoy the the trip????
thank you every much : josefa and des
Greetings and Bon Voyage,
Are you going on one of the Aus/NZ voyages? If so, I know it will be a fantastic voyage. As far as waking you up… well, it might wake you up, but it won’t knock you out of bed. As a matter of fact, the vibration never woke our kids, just us… but you know how heavy kids can sleep some times.
We personally feel that for the extra size of the room and the great balcony, it is a good trade off, but you really will have to determine that for yourself. You do feel the vibrations of the thrusters to some extent on all rooms of the ship. We were in a Ocean Veiw towards midship on the Mercury 4 years ago, and I was awoken by the movement even in that location.
Our Alaska trip was fantastic, but we felt 7 days was just too short. I have reviews and pictures posted here on Cruise Talk. So take a look and let me know if you have any questions.

greetings Arizona and Family.
thank you every much for your quick response.
i have looked at the photos, and was wondering what you where doing down there on the floor. Its all clear know. i am pleased to hear you had a good trip. and the information about the vibration as helped me a lot.
you are correct, only trying it ourselves will confirm one way or the other, and after our trip i shall write again to you, with our opinion.
since it has not been so long since you came back, there maybe some staff names i could look up and give your greetings too.
once again thank you for your help.
Josefa and Des Dyer.
You must mean when we were looking for the note we left for ourselves in November that was still taped under the drawer when we got there in June. We were suprised that it was still there but we tried to put it in a place where no one would ever look by accident.
There were so many wonderful folks working on the Mercury when we took both cruises. But we were quite surprised that so many of the faces had actually changed from November to June.
A few stand outs were:
Shiva the sommelier from India
Francisco our waiter from Goa, India
Raissa from the Philippines as a bar waiter and Cova Cafe waiter.
Andrew from Poland our Assistant Mairtre’de
The band Headliners from Philippines. (They were great!!!)
We just watched the unedited video from the Alaska cruise today. It brought back so many memories. Now I have to tackle the project of cutting down the 4 1/2 hours of video to about 1 or 1 1/2 hours and put it on DVD. It will be easy once I eliminate all the video that the kids took and the times we left the camera on unattended.
We loved the Mercury and I know you will have a great cruise.
