Royal Caribbean’s New Liberty of the Seas
MIAMI, March 07, 2007 - The unveiling of Royal Caribbean International’s newest ship, Liberty of the Seas, in April 2007 will also signal the launch of new and enhanced onboard offerings for the health-conscious, newlyweds and families. The new Vitality wellness program, Explorer Weddings, Adventure Ocean family programming and the Crown & Anchor Society Youth Loyalty Program will offer more diverse options for guests on a Royal Caribbean cruise vacation.
The stellar new ship - sharing the title of the world’s largest cruise ship with her hugely successful sister-ship, Freedom of the Seas - will feature the cruise line’s industry innovations such as the FlowRider surf simulator, full-size boxing ring, H2O Zone water park and 11-route rock-climbing wall.
Liberty of the Seas will be differentiated by her design and décor showcasing spectacular artwork commissioned by the cruise line in co-ordination with International Corporate Art. The Centrum and Royal Promenade feature dramatic artwork by Miguel Chevalier, renowned French artist and pioneer of interactive digital art. Through the use of color, video and light projection, guests will experience art that is vibrant, ever-changing and immersive. Chevalier’s creations are a part of a distinctive theme, entitled “Illusion or Reality”, that enlivens all of the public spaces aboard Liberty. In addition, guests will experience the Renaissance-themed dining room, the night club inspired by Norwegian mythology and the star-studded Casino Royale depicting Hollywood classic films. For health and wellness enthusiasts, the cruise line’s new Vitality program promotes a more invigorating and rejuvenating vacation through a balanced regimen of food, fitness, spa and shore excursion offerings. Tai Chi, acupuncture, wellness seminars and even a soothing signature scent will help guests get or stay on track for healthier lifestyles while aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise vacation.
The betrothed and devoted spouses can reinforce their commitment in extraordinary ceremonies with Explorer Weddings, an alternative and adventurous extension of the line’s existing Royal Romance wedding and vow renewal program. Guests can tie the knot on an Alaskan glacier or in a hot-air balloon, while surfing on Liberty’s FlowRider or SCUBA diving on the ocean bed, to name a few. Enhancements to the Adventure Ocean program will give Royal Caribbean’s younger cruisers a more enriching and immersive cruise experience. Adventure Theater by Camp Broadway, New York City’s famed children’s theater group, introduces kids and teens to the world of theater arts by weaving folktales, music, dance and cultural elements. Teens can also hone their turntable skills in Scratch DJ classes hosted by the Scratch DJ Academy. Meanwhile, tots can take the first steps to becoming tomorrow’s culinary superstars in Fisher-Price’s Chefs on Deck, or families can come together to share in the fun and construct their own ship in Build & Grow with Lowe’s. Finally, Royal Caribbean launches the Crown & Anchor Society Youth Program, the line’s first youth loyalty program complete with frequent cruiser rewards. More details on Liberty of the Seas and the new programs will be revealed in the upcoming weeks on Liberty of the Seas .
“With the introduction of Liberty of the Seas, the exciting new programs will provide our guests with even more freedom to create their own unique adventures,” said Adam Goldstein, president, Royal Caribbean International. “This new ship embodies the brand’s innovative essence in so many ways and will serve as a catalyst for fleet wide enhancements that will take the cruise vacation experience to new levels.”
Above and beyond the new programming, Royal Caribbean’s Freedom-class signature amenities on Liberty of the Seas, will endlessly entertain guests in search of action or relaxation:
- The FlowRider surfing simulator and the interactive sculpture garden located in the H2O Zone water park offer many ways to stay cool in the Caribbean sun
- Cantilevered whirlpools, suspended 112 feet above the ocean in the serene solarium, an adults-only oasis with a pool flanked by hammocks
- The onboard ice-skating rink, Studio B, open for lessons and free skating during the day and presenting the spectacular original ice show ‘Encore on Ice’ at night
- At 1,215 square feet, the Presidential Suite sleeps 14 people and features an 810-square foot outdoor living area with a Jacuzzi and private bar
- A regulation-size boxing ring in the world’s largest fitness center at sea
- The Royal Promenade entertainment boulevard (longer than a football field) - the ship’s undisputable hub for dining, shopping, bars and lounges
- Flat-paneled televisions and the line’s plush bedding program in every stateroom
- A serious Sports Deck with a 9-hole miniature golf course, a golf simulator, basketball/volleyball court and ping-pong tables
- The revolutionizing rock-climbing wall that first appeared on Voyager of the Seas in 1999, spanning 43-feet-tall by 44-feet-wide with 11 separate climbing routes
Liberty of the Seas and sister-ship, Freedom of the Seas, will alternate between 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries, with Liberty departing on Saturdays (from May 19) and Freedom on Sundays from Miami. Both itineraries include stops at Royal Caribbean’s private destination Labadee, Haiti, before returning to Miami. Liberty’s Western Caribbean itinerary calls in Cozumel, Mexico; George Town, Grand Cayman; and Montego Bay, Jamaica; while the Eastern Caribbean itinerary calls in San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Philipsburg, St. Maarten, allowing for a third day at sea to take advantage of all the ship has to offer. The two Freedom-class ships will be joined by a third, Independence of the Seas, when she debuts in Europe in May 2008.

Do you want to take a vacation and have an awful time? Do you want to spend a lot of money for a vacation only to find out you would have rather flushed that money down the toilet? If your answer is yes to the above questions then I suggest that you take a cruise on Royal Caribbean.
8 of us from work decided a year ago to save our money and take a nice cruise to Bermuda on Royal Caribbean……WRONG!!!!!!!!!! When we docked in Bermuda we spent the first day on the beaches. On the way back we were in a bus accident, thank God none of us were hurt badly, we basically just got a few cuts.
To make a very long story short………The police came onboard that night to take our statements about the accident. It was when we were at dinner when they showed up. They went to the main desk asking for us and instead of paging us or looking up what dinner seating we had they basically did nothing other than left a message on our phone telling us the police were onboard for our statements and that they would be back the next day at 10:00 A.M.
We knew that 10:00 would be too late since we wanted to take the Ferry and go over to Hamilton for some sightseeing and shopping. We asked the desk to please call the police dept. and tell them to come onboard at 9:00. The following day we find out that they NEVER called them and we ended up waiting until 11:30 when we finally said, “Forget this the ship is leaving here at 4:00 P.M. and we haven’t even seen Hamilton yet so we went back to our cabins, got ready and left the ship.
We had 1 1/2 hours to see Hamilton before we had to get back on the Ferry in order to make it back to the ship on time before it departed. As we got back on some of our names were being paged, when we answered the page we were told that the police are onboard to take our statements.
The communication between the Royal Caribbean employees to us and the police were awful. I spoke to a woman from Royal Caribbean and the bottom line was this……….The staff are NOT obligated to page or find you onboard, they do though have to leave a message on your phone in the cabin.
Now, like I said to the women on the phone, “if we had committed a crime and the police were onboard looking for us DON’T TELL ME that the staff wouldn’t have done everything in their power to find us”. Also why is it that they didn’t page us the first night that the police came but they surely paged us the next day an hour before the ship was to leave.
I am SO disappointed in Royal Caribbean and their unprofessional staff not to mention that we lost an entire day because of their lack of communication. We all saved up all year long for this trip only to have it ruined by them.
I have heard a few bad things about Royal Caribbean but I decided to go anyway (MY MISTAKE). I have been online reading not so good things about them I had only wished that I would have read all of these articles before wasting my money.
Royal Caribbean you got us this time but it will NEVER happen again, thanks for a cruise that none of us will EVER forget!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People before booking with them PLEASE go online and research the things that I have read about them AFTER I got home.
And also, I am not on here to get a free cruise from Royal Caribbean nor do I want a discount because using them again will never happen and I told the representative this on the phone.
Sorry, that you had such an unpleasant experience. I have know idea why the staff wasn’t more proactive in communicating with you. It does seem less than professional.
Be sure that you forward your comments onto Royal Caribbean. It never hurts to notify the cruise lines when there are customer service issue. While one note from an unhappy customer may not raise an eyebrow, be sure that the cruise lines will act if they are starting to see consistent complaints from their passengers.
The most disturbing part of this entire story is that I DID contact Royal Caribbean and the representative on the phone is the one who told me that the staff is not obligated to page or look for us on the ship, they do though have to leave a message on your phone in your cabin, that did us no good since when we received the police were long gone.
I would think that if a law enforcement officer came onboard looking for someone that they would do everything in their power to find us. As I said they KNEW our seating time for dinner the only thing they had to do was look it up but apparently they couldn’t be bothered.
Oh and for the record the ship that we were on was Explorer Of The Seas.
Royal Caribbean lost 8 people who cruise every year.
