Celebrity Mercury to sail From Vancouver in 2007
The following press release was issued by Celebrity today. This one directly affects a cruise we are booked on next year. In typical Cruise Line fashion, they just spring it on you. We noticed a couple of days ago that they had pulled all references to these cruises from their site. Calls to Celebrity, of course, came back “No, nothing going on… no changes”. Then two days later this announcement. Gotta love it… Luckily, this has no impact on us except for the shipboard credit
And, to their credit, they did indeed contact us today about the changes.
The press release:
To offer guests more time in select ports of call and a better arrival time for viewing Alaskas breathtaking, ice-blue Hubbard Glacier on Mercurys seven-night Alaska sailings in 2007, Celebrity Cruises has changed the ships port of arrival and departure to Vancouver, B.C.
Guests currently holding reservations with deposits made for Celebrity’s Mercury cruises from Seattle between May 4, 2007, and September 14, 2007, will receive a $100 per stateroom onboard credit. Celebrity’s Air/Sea department will make the necessary changes for any Air/Sea guests whose air travel is impacted by the shift to Vancouver.
Cruise-only guests who incur a fee due to changing their air reservations will be reimbursed up to $100 per person, providing proof of the air change fee is provided.
The itinerary from Vancouver will feature the same ports of call: Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan, Alaska, and including cruises through the Inside Passage and several hours beside Hubbard Glacier.
Celebrity is proactively contacting all travel agents with clients holding reservations affected by this change; however, agents as well as guests with individual or group bookings are welcome to call Celebrity’s re-accommodation desk, at 1-888-281-9343.

Just wondering why you picked Celebrity Mercury over Infinity?
We choose the Mercury for our Alaska cruise because of the Friday departure. Some of our extended family is joining us for this cruise and the Friday departure for the Mercury worked great for them.
Also, the Mercury offers an all ages indoor pool. On the Infinity the indoor pool is an adults only thasselotherapy pool.
Infinity is bigger, but we actually like in many ways the smaller size of the Mercury.
I would gladly said either the Mercury or the Infinity again depending on the itenerary, price and schedule.
